Created with care: why our moisturisers begin with their ingredients

Not all moisturisers are made with intention. Many are made to fill shelves, designed by committee, mass-produced to suit everyone and no one. They are often led by trends rather than truths.

At Bath House, we began with a different question: What does the skin really need? And then: What does it mean to make skincare that doesn’t just perform, but respects the skin, the planet, and the people who use it?

The answer wasn’t found in creating more products. It came from making better ones. Moisturisers that work in harmony with our serums. Our vegan moisturisers that begin not in the bottle, but at the source – with carefully chosen ingredients, deeply researched formulations, and a responsibility to do things well.

Listening to Skin, Not Just Trends

Our customers had been telling us something. They loved the facial serums. They trusted them. But they still needed more natural ingredient skincare to follow. Something to hydrate and protect, but not compete with the work the serum was already doing.

We began developing vegan moisturisers and night creams with the same design principles as our serums: minimalist, natural, scientifically grounded, and transparent.

We’ve created five vegan moisturisers in total – three daily formulas that launch this month, and two nourishing night creams that follow shortly after. Each one created to complement the skin’s natural rhythms, the changing seasons, and the targeted benefits of our serums.

In this journal, we’re taking a closer look at two, the Rescue & Hydrate and the Balance & Hydrate.

Different by design, but united by principle.

Rescue & Hydrate, a moisturiser for skin that rebels

This was the first natural ingredient moisturiser we developed. Because breakout-prone skin doesn’t need punishing oily skincare products. It needs precision.

Salicylic Acid, naturally derived from wintergreen leaves in Germany, was our starting point. It works deep within pores to exfoliate and clear congestion, but unlike many synthetic versions, ours is eco-certified and gentle enough for daily use.

To regulate sebum and reduce shine, we turned to Zinc PCA, sourced from France. It’s a dual-function ingredient: antimicrobial and balancing. And crucially, it doesn’t strip the skin. It supports it.

But active ingredients are only part of the story. We chose Beracare CBA, a plant-based alternative to CBD, because it goes beyond trend. It’s a sustainable, award-winning extract of Copaiba Resin and Passionfruit Seed Oil, known for reducing inflammation and improving comfort in sensitised skin.

The supporting cast? Organic Calendula, hand-harvested for its calming properties. Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, grown in certified organic farms and cold-processed to retain its active compounds. And Sunflower and Black Pepper Oils, both chosen for their non-comedogenic profile and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Every element was selected for its role in healing, not hiding. The result is a calming skincare moisturiser that feels like a cool breath for problem skin – light, soothing, supportive.

Balance & Hydrate, for skin that doesn’t fit one box

Combination skin is often misdiagnosed or misunderstood. It can feel oily in the T-zone, dry on the cheeks, or reactive with no clear pattern. Our goal wasn’t to override this behaviour – it was to work with it.

We began with niacinamide, a multi-functional vitamin sourced from tapioca in Switzerland. Its ability to reduce redness, even tone, and regulate oil makes it a cornerstone of modern skin science. But not all niacinamide is created equal; as a natural derived ingredient, ours is low-irritating, bioavailable, and COSMOS-approved.

To hydrate, we included Hyaluronic Acid, bio-fermented in Switzerland through an environmentally conscious process. It holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, but more importantly, it does so without clogging pores or overwhelming skin.

Hemp Seed Oil, cold-pressed and organically grown in Spain, provides nourishment with one of the lowest comedogenic ratings of any plant oil. It supports barrier function without residue. It calms without suffocating.

And then, there is Rootness Mood+. An ingredient that sounds like poetry, and behaves like science. Extracted through cutting-edge plant milking technology (no soil disruption, minimal water use), this natural ingredient enhances skin luminosity and even stimulates serotonin and melatonin production in the skin helping it not only look better, but feel better.

The essential oils we chose Bergamot, Petitgrain, and Citrus Leaf are all steam-distilled from upcycled fruit peels and leaves. No synthetic fragrance. No waste. Just gentle clarity, in both scent and effect.

Our Ethos, In Every Jar

To make a vegan moisturiser is to make a promise. About what you stand for. About what matters.

We make ours in small batches in Dent, on the Cumbrian border, because scale should never compromise quality. We formulate without parabens, sulphates, silicones, or unnecessary emulsifiers. We use only vegan and cruelty-free ingredients. Our packaging is designed with minimalism in mind: fully recyclable, and made to be reused or responsibly disposed of. And perhaps most importantly, we create formulas that allow the skin to rest. To rebalance. To breathe.

We do not want our vegan moisturisers to be the hero. We want them to be the support system, the quiet strength that holds the work of the serum in place.

From Source, With Purpose

Every natural ingredient we use has a story. Not just of where it comes from, but of why we chose it. What we leave out is as intentional as what we put in.

Because to care for the skin is also to care for the world it lives in.

And when we talk about moisturiser, we’re not just talking about hydration. We’re talking about responsibility. About relationships. About respect.

From source to skin, every jar we make is created with care.
