Sustainable Skincare | Refillable, Cruelty-Free Skincare
At the heart of our cruelty-free skincare and fragrance brand lies a commitment to creating a positive impact on the planet, society, and our customers. From sustainable production methods to ethical employment and cruelty-free skincare, our practices reflect a conscious effort to protect the environment and uphold our values.
We Care About Our Environmental Impact
Bath House is now officially a Certified B Corporation™. B Corp certification is one of the highest global standards for businesses working to balance profit with purpose. Recognising transparency, accountability, and making a positive impact, socially,
environmentally and ethically.
We are also part of the Green Small Business Initiative, we are committed to reducing our ecological footprint through sustainable practices across the business. Our annual Environmental Action Plan, certified by the Small Green Business Scheme, guides our efforts to make a meaningful difference.
Vegan, Cruelty-Free Bath & Beauty
At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to creating beauty products that are kind to animals and the planet. No ingredient we use is of animal origin, from soy wax candles to shea butter moisturisers. We are thrilled to be Leaping Bunny Approved, the globally recognised gold standard for cruelty-free certification.
This means we refuse to work with any suppliers that test on animals, ensuring every step of our process is ethical and transparent. Our strict monitoring system, independently audited by Cruelty Free International, guarantees adherence to these principles. Additionally, we are dedicated to using 100% vegan ingredients, offering you beauty that aligns with your values.
Natural & Eco-Cert Ingredients
You’ll never find parabens, sulphates (SLS), TEA, DEA, MEA, petroleum, mineral oils, plastic micro-beads, artificial colours, or palm oil in our formulas. We are committed to using natural ingredients in our products, many of which hold certifications from trusted bodies like Eco-Cert.
Our focus is on sourcing the finest natural ingredients that are not only effective but also responsibly and sustainably obtained, ensuring every formulation respects both people and the planet. For example, palm oil may be natural, but its farming practices can be destructive, which is why we make palm oil free soap with glycerine derived from rapeseed byproduct waste in North Yorkshire.
Wherever possible, we use ingredients derived from byproducts of local industries that would otherwise go to waste. When local options aren’t feasible, such as for Patchouli oil from Indonesia or Camellia oil from California, we ensure full traceability and responsible sourcing.
We Care About Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint by measuring and offsetting emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3, including our supply chain and delivery.
Our carbon footprint stands at 246.6 tonnes of CO2, well below the industry average, and we offset this through verified programmes while setting yearly reduction targets. Refillable products contribute to carbon reduction by using 85% less plastic than traditional bottles, reducing both plastic waste and emissions from manufacturing.
Additionally, we recycle wasted energy from our machines to heat our making rooms, further lowering our carbon impact. Deliveries to shops and partners are made using an electric van, ensuring eco-friendly logistics.
We Make In Small Batches With Care And Quality
At Bath House, we believe in the beauty of craftsmanship. From the first spark of inspiration to the final product, every creative step takes place here at our Making Rooms in Cumbria, England. We value being in control of the entire process ensuring consistency, quality, and ongoing innovation.
Everything we create from our British fragrance to our refillable products are made in small batches, using tried-and-tested artisan techniques, including hand-pouring and hand-finishing. This approach ensures the ingredients and fragrances remain as fresh as possible, preserving their effectiveness and delivering the benefits of the natural active ingredients to you sealed inside every bottle and jar.
Manufacturing, filling, and distributing our products in-house, reduces the environmental impact associated with transporting pre-filled goods, helping minimise our carbon footprints.
Creating A Waste-Free World Together
Creating a waste-free world is at the heart of what we do. Since 2019, we’ve reduced our plastic usage by 85% and are committed to further minimising waste with eco-friendly, reusable, recyclable and refillable products.
We prioritise materials like glass and aluminium for their durability and full recyclability, while eliminating extra labels by printing directly on containers to ensure longevity. To cut single-use plastic, we offer a reusable pump system for our body washes, encouraging customers to refill and reuse.
Our refill pouches use 85% less plastic compared to standard plastic bottles, are 100% recyclable, and can be easily disposed of in household systems. We also provide clear online guidance to simplify your recycling journey, ensuring transparency every step of the way.
Responsible Packaging Choices
We prioritise responsible packaging choices to reduce our environmental impact. Our packaging for products from palm oil free soap to our gift sets are printed with soy-based, non-toxic inks on FSC® certified paper, board, and card, ensuring responsible sourcing and traceability.
For shipping, we use recycled packing paper, biodegradable paper tape, and avoid over-packaging.
We aim for a circular system with recyclable glass, aluminium, refillable pouches, and minimal plastic. Even our office paper and shipping cardboard is recycled.
Additionally, we designed a clip system for closing our product packaging, eliminating the need for glue, further reducing waste.
Working Towards Zero Plastic
Bath House supports Plastic Bank, an organisation dedicated to preventing plastic waste from polluting our oceans while empowering coastal communities. Through this partnership, we’ve contributed to stopping 1,000 kilograms of plastic – the equivalent of 50,000 500ml plastic bottles from entering marine ecosystems this is far in access of any waste plastic created by Bath House.
Plastic Bank creates recycling ecosystems in coastal areas where plastic waste is abundant. Collected plastic is transformed into a resource, providing income for collection members, helping them transcend poverty.
We Value Our Diverse Team
At Bath House, we employ a diverse team of 65 individuals, including 8 men and 57 women, with staff from Taiwan, the USA, and Romania.
We’re proud to be Real Living Wage accredited, ensuring all our employees receive fair pay and work-life balance. Our commitment to ethical employment practices is reflected in the fact that women hold the majority of senior roles. We believe in creating a supportive, inclusive environment where everyone is valued and treated with respect, promoting both fairness and opportunity for all.
Giving Back To People
We believe in the connection between our products, self-care, and feelings of positive well-being. Recently, we supported Mind Over Mountains, raising funds for their Wastwater Retreat, where people experienced the healing power of nature through walks in the mountains and lakes, supported by trained counsellors.
Bath House also engages local communities near our stores, offices, and Making Rooms, contributing to grassroots fundraising efforts that make a meaningful impact to society and the environment.
Caring About Our Environment
Our cruelty-free skincare and fragrance products, ingredients, and the lifestyle we promote are inspired by the beauty of the Lake District and the Cumbrian landscape.
We support the Save Windermere Campaign to raise awareness about water pollution and actively back The Lake District Foundation, recently helping fund the replanting of animal-friendly hedgerows in Cumbria.
