A New Year Editorial
Some years move quite gently, unfolding without ceremony, and there are years that leave a quiet imprint on a business, a sense that something meaningful has shifted. For Bath House, 2025 was one of those years. Not loud, not showy, but a year that felt rooted in purpose, shaped by our values, and lifted by the people and landscapes around us.

It began, as so many of our stories do, in Dent, a small Cumbrian village located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, where the light moves differently across the Howgill Fells, where weather rolls in like great theatre, and where we continue to make many of our Bath House sustainable skincare and bath products in small batches and even some like home fragrance candles and vegan soap by hand. This rural setting still anchors us, perhaps now more than ever, especially as we grow, expand, and welcome new customers into the fold.

But looking back, the first defining moment of the year was becoming a Certified B Corporation, one of just five businesses to achieve this in Cumbria. This wasn’t something we approached lightly, nor was it a box-ticking exercise. The process was rigorous, looking at how we treat our staff, how we measure the impact of our sustainable skincare, how we choose materials, and how deeply sustainability sits within our decision-making. It confirmed what we’ve quietly worked towards for years: that doing things properly – even when it takes longer, even when it costs more – is worth it.

Becoming a B Corp made us stop and reflect on the work that built the foundations of Bath House: our long-standing commitment to sourcing locally, with 61% of our materials coming from within the UK and 55% from the North West and Yorkshire, supporting suppliers and makers close to home, and helping reduce our carbon footprint from transport. Our reliance on durable, recyclable materials, glass and aluminium making up most of our packaging, rather than plastic and our pledge that the ingredients we use are EcoCert-certified, sustainably grown or sourced, and fully traceable back to individual farmers and growers. These are choices rooted in the belief that natural beauty and skincare must be responsible at every stage, from soil to bottle.
Another highlight of the year was opening our new Keswick store. There’s something special about watching a retail space find its rhythm, discovering who walks through the doors, the conversations that unfurl, the atmosphere that settles. Under the capable hands of our new team, the Keswick shop has become a gently bustling place full of warmth and welcome. The reviews coming in reflect what we feel: it seems as if the store has always belonged there, on the corner of the square opposite the historic Moot Hall. After this exciting year, we look forward to our new store becoming naturally woven into the character of the northern Lakes.
We have also been busy rebuilding our website, an exciting, creative project that felt like setting up a new home for our sustainable bath products and fragrances. The aim was simplicity: a calmer space, easier navigation, more natural storytelling. This new platform has allowed us to connect more fluidly with new customers through thoughtful digital outreach and better visibility on Facebook, Instagram, and Google. It has given us a smoother way to speak to people who haven’t yet stumbled across our shops but resonate with the world of wellbeing, beauty, and fragrance we have built.

Throughout the year, we have rolled out a comprehensive, completely natural face care range for all skin types, with a collection of cleansing bars, serums, moisturisers, and night creams. Our face care is built around green science and naturally derived extracts chosen for their ability to nourish, soothe, and support the skin. Formulations are designed to multitask, hydrating, protecting, and restoring in equal measure, offering a thoughtful blend of nature and science that reflects our commitment to gentle, effective skincare.

Beyond our artisan fragrance and sustainable skincare collections, we are proud of the charitable work our team and customers have helped support. Together, we backed Mind Over Mountains, offering young people access to mental-health support through time spent at the Wasdale Hall retreat and exploring the outdoor landscape. We stood behind Save Windermere, a grassroots campaign deeply aligned with our love of the Lake District and the urgent need to protect it from pollution. And we contributed to the Lake District Foundation, helping plant hedgerows and restore natural habitats across Cumbria. All three projects reflect who we are: a business inspired by nature, responsible for its landscapes, and firmly connected to the community.

And so we look to 2026 with anticipation. New wellbeing and spa formulations are on the horizon with products shaped by research, natural ingredients, and the sensory world at the heart of Bath House. Our environmental work continues, as does our role as a B Corp. And we’ll keep investing in the small details: the conversations in-store, the refills, the way a product is wrapped, the scent that greets you when you walk through the door.
If 2025 taught us anything, it’s that progress doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it looks like a new store in a lakeside town. Sometimes it looks like a website that simply works better. Sometimes it looks like an accreditation that reminds you that your values are in the right place. And sometimes it looks like the quiet, careful making of something beautiful from natural ingredients in a small workshop on the edge of a Cumbrian valley.
To everyone who visited, shopped, refilled, reviewed, asked questions, or simply cheered us on: thank you. You are part of this story, and we are grateful for it.
Here’s to another year shaped by purpose, craftsmanship, and care.
