Inside Our Ingredient Philosophy

The beauty industry has long been shaped by language that promises purity and naturalness, but rarely explains what those words truly mean. As customers have become more discerning about what they apply to their skin, transparency has grown from a welcome gesture to a necessity. At Bath House, our approach to ingredients has always begun with the belief that if we ask people to trust our formulations, we must first understand, justify and take responsibility for every material that goes into them.

This philosophy sits at the core of our work as a B Corp certified and cruelty-free brand. It informs the questions we ask suppliers, the way we evaluate raw materials, the standards we set in our Environmental Policy, and the craft we apply in our workshop in Dent. Before fragrance, before texture, before packaging, we begin with the substance itself: what it is, where it comes from, and how its cultivation and processing touch the wider world.

Natural Ingredient Skincare

Across our range, our products contain an average of 98% natural ingredients, a figure we publish openly. Working with vegan, natural materials gives our formulations depth and a sense of connection to the landscapes that inspire our scents: the warmth of plant oils, the character of botanicals shaped by climate and soil, the subtle variations that come from crops rather than factories. But naturalness alone is not our goal. Every ingredient must be traceable, cruelty-free, responsibly sourced and aligned with our environmental priorities. Transparency is only meaningful when matched with careful, deliberate decision-making.

To ensure this, the majority of our ingredients are EcoCert-certified. This certification offers a level of accountability that goes far beyond marketing language, verifying that each material has been grown and harvested with respect for soil health, biodiversity and environmental protection. It provides full traceability at a time when agricultural and global supply chains can be opaque. For us, EcoCert is a framework that supports our values; for customers, it is assurance that what they place on their skin has been rigorously assessed from field to formulation.

These principles become most vivid when looking closely at the ingredients we choose for particular products, each one telling a different sustainability story. One example is MossCellTec™, used in our Age Resilience Facial Serum. This ingredient is an innovation of Green Science, created using advanced biotechnology rather than resource-heavy farming. Cultivated in a controlled environment with minimal land and water, MossCellTec™ is designed to help skin remain resilient against modern environmental stressors such as pollution and climate fluctuations. Its value lies not only in its performance but also in the way it reimagines what a responsible skincare active can be: highly effective, low-impact and ethically produced. It demonstrates how scientific progress can create ingredients that support both the skin and the planet.

Upcycled Vegan Skincare

Upcycled ingredients are by-products or waste materials of other processes that have been repurposed instead of being disposed of. This narrative can be found in the Mattifying Serum, where we use a collection of upcycled fruit AHAs. These naturally occurring acids once lived hidden in the by-products of the food industry, maple syrup production, the citrus juice trade, fruit pulp that previously held little value. Through upcycling, these remnants are transformed into gentle exfoliating actives that renew the skin by lifting dead cells without abrasion. Their transformation reflects a shift in thinking: ingredients once destined for waste streams now form the foundation of sustainable skincare. It is a quiet form of circularity, where materials are not extracted but recovered, given new purpose and a far lighter environmental footprint.

Another expression of our ingredient philosophy can be seen in our Glow & Nourish Night Cream, a formulation guided by the richness of organic botanicals -

- Shea butter, naturally abundant in vitamins A, E and F, softens and nourishes the skin throughout the night.
- Evening Primrose and Aloe Vera bring moisture, restorative comfort and calm.
- Olive oil & Bay Laurel extracts nourish and condition the skin while supporting ecological farming systems that work in harmony with the land.

These ingredients stand as reminders that some of the most effective skincare materials come from traditional agricultural practices grounded in balance, biodiversity, and care for the earth.

Bath House’s Ingredient Philosophy

Taken together, these ingredients, biotechnological moss, rescued fruit acids and organically grown botanicals, form a kind of trilogy within our ingredient philosophy. One looks to scientific innovation to reduce environmental impact. One reimagines waste as a source of value. One honours growers and landscapes shaped by ecological cultivation. Though their origins differ, they sit comfortably side by side, demonstrating how sustainable skincare and beauty is not one path but many, each contributing to a broader responsibility.

In our workshop in Dent, formulation is a thoughtful, collaborative craft. Ingredients arrive with their own stories: the orchards and fields they grew in, the innovations that produced them, the industries that once overlooked them. Our task is to honour those origins through products that are sensorial, effective and consciously made. This dedication to detail is part of the quiet luxury at the heart of Bath House, a kind of beauty defined not by excess, but by integrity.

Our ingredient philosophy evolves as the world evolves. Climate pressures, advances in sustainable technology and shifts in agricultural practice all shape the decisions we make and the standards we continue to raise within our Environmental Management System. What remains constant is our commitment to clarity, honesty and responsibility. Every formulation reflects choices that support our B Corp principles, our dedication to cruelty-free development and our belief that skincare should not cost the earth.

When someone uses a Bath House product, whether a facial serum enriched with biotechnological moss, an overnight treatment built from organic botanicals, or a cleanser powered by up-cycled fruit extracts, they are experiencing more than a skincare routine. They are touching a philosophy that considers how each ingredient lives, where it comes from and the impact it leaves behind. What goes into your skincare matters. How it is sourced matters even more. And this principle is the foundation on which every Bath House product is made.
