Movement, stillness, ritual

There’s a moment just before movement begins, a pause where everything is still.

For dancer Angela Venturini, that space is just as important as the movement itself. It’s where awareness starts. Not performance, not pressure, simply paying attention to how the body feels.

We first spoke with Angela several years ago, drawn to the natural ease in her movement and the calm presence she brings to her work. Looking back on that conversation, what stands out is her approach to wellbeing, intuitive, balanced, and closely connected to the senses.

Her practice goes beyond dance. It’s shaped by environment, routine, and small daily rituals that help her stay grounded. A way of moving through the day that allows for both energy and rest.

A Life in Movement

Angela’s route into dance wasn’t traditional. She started later than most, learning through instinct and repetition before moving into formal training.

Her work has since taken her across different countries and disciplines, eventually bringing her to London, where she combines performance, teaching, and creative projects.

Over time, her focus has shifted.

Rather than movement for performance, it’s now about how movement feels, as a way to connect body and mind and support overall wellbeing. Something that can be both expressive and personal.

Time away from the city also plays an important role. Being in nature, particularly near water or open landscapes, helps her reset and recharge. It offers a slower pace and a sense of clarity that’s harder to find in busy environments.

The Power of Movement

Movement doesn’t always need structure to be effective.

Outside of training or choreography, it can be simple, stretching, walking, or moving freely without a set goal. These small moments can help shift energy, improve mood, and support both physical and mental wellbeing.

There’s value in keeping it uncomplicated.

Allowing the body to move naturally, without overthinking it, creates a stronger connection. It becomes less about doing something “correctly” and more about how it feels.

This approach also makes movement more accessible, something that can fit easily into everyday life.

Ritual & Daily Wellbeing

Rather than following a strict routine, Angela’s day is guided by how she feels.

Some mornings begin quietly, without noise or distraction. Others include gentle movement, stretching, breath work, or yoga, depending on what the body needs.

That flexibility is key.

Throughout the day, it’s about small, consistent moments of care rather than fixed steps. Taking time to pause, reset, and stay aware of energy levels.

Evening is when things slow down more intentionally.

A warm shower or bath helps release physical tension from the day. It becomes a clear transition, from activity into rest. Simple, natural products and textures support this, helping the body relax without overcomplicating the process.

Afterwards, applying body oil to the skin becomes part of that wind-down. Slower, more deliberate, allowing time to properly switch off.

On some evenings, this extends to a face mask or a longer routine. On others, it stays minimal.

Lighting also plays a role. Softer light, a candle, a quieter atmosphere, all helping to signal that the day is coming to an end.

It’s not about doing the same thing every day, but about creating a rhythm that feels supportive.

The Role of Scent & Self-Care

Scent works in a subtle but powerful way.

It can help define different parts of the day, something fresh and revitalising in the morning, something warmer and more grounding in the evening.

Used well, it becomes part of the overall atmosphere rather than something separate.

A soy candle, for example, can change how a space feels almost instantly, creating a calm and considered environment.

Artisan fragrance worn on the skin works more gradually. It develops over time, staying close and personal. What begins as something fresh can become softer and more settled throughout the day.

It’s less about making a statement, and more about creating a feeling, something that supports how you want to move through your day.

Inspired Ritual

- Start the day quietly, without rushing.
- Include gentle movement where it feels right.
- Spend time outdoors when possible.
- Use water to reset, a shower or bath at the end of the day.
- Introduce scent to shift mood and create atmosphere.
- Keep routines flexible and responsive.

A Continuing Practice

Wellbeing isn’t fixed, it changes over time.

What matters is having a way to return to it. Through movement, through rest, or through small daily rituals that help bring things back into balance.

Angela’s approach is a reminder that wellbeing doesn’t need to be complicated.

Often, it starts with something simple, paying attention.
