The Making Rooms, handmade soaps

We invite you to watch our short film where we take you behind the scenes at Bath House, to our making rooms in Dent, Cumbria. Our Production Manager, Nicola, explains in detail the meticulous process behind crafting our palm oil-free soaps. These are handmade soap bars crafted in individual batches at our making rooms, containing no animal derived ingredients.

We like to describe our products as ‘artisan made’, and in this film you will be able to see what we mean and experience some of the  artistry and attention to detail that makes our natural bar soap - and indeed all Bath House products truly special.

The key ingredients in our natural bar soaps.

What makes our handmade soap bars so special are our unique blends of elegant and sophisticated fragrance oils. The video showcases our iconic Patchouli & Black Pepper  fragrance oil, which we blend alongside fresh mandarin, aromatic lavender and rosemary to release complimentary notes.

Vitamin E hydrates and protects the skin and is added to the fragrance oil used in the production of our handmade soap bars. Bergamot oil is another ingredient we include to promote healthy skin.

The soap base is made of Coconut oil and Glycerine, hydrating, replenishing, and moisturising agents. The reason we chose palm oil free soap, is that while palm-based Glycerine may be vegan and natural, but its farming practices contribute to issues of pollution and deforestation.

The vitamin-enriched fragrance oil and the additional extracts are first measured out to the correct amount. The soap base is chopped into small chunks, then melted until the base reaches the perfect temperature. Not all the soap base is added to the pot, and the remainder is added after the fragrance and key ingredients have been well-stirred into the mixture. When the mixture is ready to pour, it is taken to the individual soap moulds and poured to the brim.

The moulds are sprayed with an alcohol after the pour to eliminate bubbles that would diminish the presentation of the final product. Then natural bar soaps are left to set for three days before they are boxed in FSC approved cardboard boxes.
