From Field to Formula: Inside the Making of a Plant-Based Vegan Lip Balm
In a world increasingly drawn to clean beauty, the true luxury is transparency – knowing not just what’s in your products, but where it comes from, how it’s treated, and why it was chosen in the first place.
At the heart of our vegan lip balm collection is a quiet philosophy: that beauty can be both simple and intentional. Each balm is a small act of care – for the skin, for the planet, and for the people who use it.
Here, we trace the journey of our natural lip balms from soil to swipe – a story of ingredients, integrity, and plant-powered colour.
Step One: The Soil, the Source, the Shea
Every natural lip balm begins with a foundation – and ours starts in the sunbaked landscapes of West Africa, where Shea butter has been harvested and hand-processed by women for generations.
Extracted from the nut of the Vitellaria paradoxa tree, Shea butter is revered for its rich concentration of fatty acids and vitamins A and E – essential for healing dry, sensitive skin. We use refined organic Shea butter, selected for purity and consistency, while preserving its natural reparative qualities.
Why do we use Shea butter in our lip balms? Because lip skin is different – thinner, more fragile, and with no oil glands of its own. Shea mimics the skin’s natural lipids, sealing in moisture exactly where it’s needed most.

Step Two: Colour, Straight from the Garden
In our tinted balms – Mulberry, Sweet Pea and Pink Zinnia – the colour isn’t synthetic. It isn’t mineral. It isn’t from a lab. It’s from vegetables.
More specifically – black carrot and red radish, selected for their vivid pigments and high antioxidant content. – Black carrot gives our Mulberry Lip Tint its cool plum tone – deep, bold, and antioxidant-rich. – Red radish powers both our Sweet Pea and Pink Zinnia Lip Tints, delivering soft pink and warm red hues with natural UV-protective qualities.
Our colour pigments are made using Natpure Colfine technology – a process that gently spray-dries vegetable juice onto a natural base of maltodextrin and acacia gum. This preserves the stability, vibrancy, and safety of the pigment – no preservatives required. Most natural colourants fade, oxidize, or irritate, but by using using Natpure Colfine technology, our colour pigments are microencapsulated to hold their hue and stay gentle on sensitive skin.
Step Three: A Symphony of Oils
Ethical skincare – that’s what we wanted from our Lip Balms. So we created a base that reads more like a face oil than a traditional lip balm. Each formula includes a carefully composed blend of plant oils, selected for texture, absorption, and skin benefits, these include –
– Watermelon seed oil – lightweight and balancing.
– Oat kernel oil – soothing, perfect for reactive skin.
– Squalane – non-greasy, barrier-boosting hydration.
– Organic Castor, Chia, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Hemp-for slip, shine, and nourishment.
Together, they create balms that glide – no drag, no waxy feel – and leaves behind a natural sheen and a deeply conditioned finish.
Step Four: A Breath of Citrus
Rather than perfuming our Lip Balms, we keep them close to nature. The aroma is subtle – fresh, botanical, never overpowering.
Each natural lip balm is scented with a delicate blend of sweet orange (citrus aurantium) and lemon myrtle (backhousia citriodora) essential oils. It’s uplifting, clean, and refreshingly real.

Step Five: The Lab, the Craft, the Care
In the lab, each vegan lip balm is made in small batches – blended gently to protect the integrity of the oils and pigments. The mixture is never overheated, ensuring each ingredient retains its potency.
The result is poured by hand, cooled slowly, and left to rest. We avoid shortcuts: no emulsifiers, synthetic stabilisers, or unnecessary fillers. Just plant oils, botanical pigments, and function-first formulation – tested for stability, safety, and wear.

Step Six: In Your Hands
From the field to the lab, and finally to you – our Lip Balms are created with purpose at every step. Whether you’re swiping on Nude Lip Balm before bed, or wearing Pink Zinnia Lip Tint out the door, know that what touches your lips has touched real soil, real people, and real care.
This isn’t just about colour. It’s about comfort. It’s about ritual. And it’s about knowing exactly what you’re putting on your skin.
From nature, with intention. From us, to you.
